ADHD continuity prescribing

Team.

Really pleased to announce I’ve finally managed to get through all the paperwork.

I’m now a registered continuity prescriber for stimulants for ADHD both in NSW and the ACT.

Please note: ACT does not currently have any provision for GPs to diagnose or initiate stimulants.

NSW does but at present these pathways are limited and I do not hold these rights.

This means I cannot initiate medication and I can only continue it if you (or your child) are aged over 6 years, and have previously been commenced and are considered stable on medication by your prescribing paediatrician, psychiatrist or neurologist.

The good news is I can make some adjustments to medication, within reason, however any big changes would still require returning to your diagnosing prescriber for review.

I anticipate this will make a big difference for a lot of patients – and a hope a lot of difference for my Gunning patients many of whom are having to currently travel a long way for care.

Before you ask, I don’t know yet if I’ll undertake training to diagnose – I would like to – but it will be a big commitment to train and it will be a matter of finding the time. Watch this space and I’ll let you know.

There are some restrictions about prescribing. Please note that patients that I will provide this care to in general need to be either previously known to me, or local patients to Gunning Community Care, patients of Gunning/lade Vale/ Dalton/Jerrawa etc. These patients will receive preference for appointments, and refusal of service may offend so please keep this in mind.

Appoinments for ADHD medication and care are privately billed, no matter what location I am working at. If you have financial concerns please speak to reception for advice.

Fortunately I have progress on a new ACT location and hope to have an announcement there soon!

Thanks and forgive me for the meme, which if you’ve seen me for neurodivergent care you’ve probably seen before as it’s one of my favourites!
